CHALLENGE

Navigating the Uncharted Territory of AI-Powered DesignThe rapidly evolving landscape of AI technologies presented both exciting opportunities and uncharted territories. One of the primary challenges was familiarising myself with the intricacies of AI tools like Stable Diffusion and understanding how to effectively integrate them into my existing design workflow. It required a significant investment of time and effort to master these new tools and techniques, while also ensuring that the final output met the high standards of quality and creativity that I set for myself.

Another critical challenge was striking the right balance between leveraging the power of AI to streamline and enhance the design process, while still maintaining the human touch and creative intuition that defines great design. I had to navigate the delicate interplay between automation and artistic expression, ensuring that the AI-generated elements complemented and elevated my own creative vision, rather than overshadowing it.

KICK-OFF

From an 0 to a Brand Strategy for a Femtech CompanyAt the start of the project, I found myself with a complete BLNK (blank) canvas, wanting to explore the potential of AI in the branding process but unsure of the specific direction to take. I knew I wanted to create a brand that would showcase the power of AI-assisted design, but the industry and target audience were yet to be determined.

Through a series of ideation sessions and conversations with Claude 3 Opus, I began to narrow down the possibilities. We discussed various industries and consumer needs, seeking a space where a bold, innovative brand could make a meaningful impact. As we delved into the topic of women's sexual health, a spark ignited. We recognised an opportunity to create a brand that could break taboos, empower women, and revolutionise the way society approaches female sexuality.

With the creative brief and strategy provided by Claude 3, I delved deeper into exploring the brand identity. To find the perfect name, I asked the AI to generate ideas based on the company's mission of breaking taboos and stigmas around women's sexual health. By curating and refining the AI's outputs, we ultimately arrived at a brandable name that powerfully represents the company's purpose.

RESEARCH

Visualising a Bold Identity for WyldAfter having in place a solid strategy, it was my turn for moodboarding process to bring Wyld's visual identity to life. Through this process, I explored different creative directions that embodied the brand's personality (bold, empowering and inclusive, among others).

Alongside the moodboarding process, I conducted in-depth market research to ensure Wyld's brand identity would resonate with our target audience. By combining my design expertise with the power of AI-driven research tools, I gained a comprehensive understanding of our market landscape and consumer needs. These insights informed the refinement of Wyld's moodboards, ensuring that every visual element was not only aesthetically striking but also strategically aligned with our audience's desires and values.

VISUAL IDENTITY

Crafting a Visual Identity with AI-Powered InsightsAfter conducting a market research, AI's insights guided key design decisions, such as selecting a vibrant, energetic color palette that differentiated Wyld from competitors and conveyed its bold, inclusive brand personality, as well as the typography choices.

In regards to logo design, I chose to create a system using an isometric grid, which symbolised the multi-faceted nature of women's sexual health. By combining the grid pathways (using Illustrator's Shape Builder tool), I formed a unique, blackletter-style logotype. The decision to use a blackletter style, historically associated with traditional texts, was a deliberate choice to subvert expectations and challenge taboos Wyld aims to fight. The isometric grid creates a sense of movement and dynamism, while the blackletter-style lettering conveys the brand's fearless, unapologetic approach.

Wyld's visual identity stands as a testament to the power of human-AI collaboration in design, combining strategic thinking, creative intuition, and data-driven insights to create a bold, memorable brand that challenges conventions and empowers women to take control of their sexual health.

Stable difussion

Bridging Stable Diffusion and Post-Production RetouchingThe process began with prompt engineering – the art of crafting descriptive, evocative text prompts that guide Stable Diffusion toward the desired visual output. Drawing from the brand strategy and visual identity we had established for Wyld, I experimented with various prompt structures, incorporating key elements such as:

• Detailed descriptions of scenery, subject, camera angles, and composition
• References to specific artistic styles, techniques, and aesthetics
• Playing with Checkpoints, LORAs, samplers, Upscalers, and other settings in the platform
• Negative prompts to exclude unwanted elements or styles

Through iterative testing and refinement, I developed a set of master prompts that consistently produced high-quality, on-brand images. However, while these AI-generated images were impressive, they needed a post-production in Photoshop to gain a more photorealistic result.

This art direction process, bridging AI-generated imagery and post-production retouching, represents a powerful new workflow for designers and marketers. It allows us to harness the efficiency and innovation of AI while still maintaining the high standards of quality, consistency, and impact that define great visual storytelling. As AI continues to evolve, I believe this hybrid approach will become an essential tool for any creative professional looking to push the boundaries of what's possible in branding, advertising, and beyond.

activation

Bringing Wyld to Life Across TouchpointsWith Wyld's brand strategy, visual identity, and AI-generated imagery in place, it was time to activate the brand across various marketing channels. From billboards (also generated with Stable Diffusion) to social media posts and website banners, we pushed Wyld's unapologetic brand to life in the real world.

To ensure that Wyld's messaging was as powerful as its visuals, I used Claude 3 Opus to develop compelling copy for each touchpoint. Through a series of iterative refinements, we crafted headlines, taglines, and body copy that were used across multiple touchpoints. The AI's natural language generation capabilities, combined with my strategic guidance and editing, resulted in a suite of marketing materials that were both provocative and purposeful. With a focus on driving awareness and sparking conversations, Wyld's activation phase set the stage for a groundbreaking entry.

final thoughts

The Future of AI-powered technology in Creative WorkflowsIt's clear that AI is revolutionising the way we approach design and branding. By leveraging AI-powered tools, I was able to create a full brand from 0 in a fraction of the time it would have taken using traditional methods. However, this project also highlighted the challenges and learning curves that come with adopting new AI technologies. As a designer, I had to invest significant time and effort into understanding the capabilities and limitations of each tool, experimenting with different techniques to achieve the desired results.

Despite these challenges, the potential benefits of AI in design are immense. By automating time-consuming tasks, AI frees up designers to focus on higher-level strategic and creative thinking. It allows us to explore a wider range of ideas, test and refine our designs more quickly, and create more personalised, data-driven brand experiences. Moreover, AI has the potential to democratise design, making it more accessible to businesses and individuals who may not have the resources to hire a full-time design team, brand strategist or art directors.

As creatives, our role is evolving from being the sole creators of visual content to being the curators, directors, and strategists who guide the AI to achieve our vision. We must learn to work alongside AI, leveraging its strengths while bringing our own unique perspective, empathy, and problem-solving skills to the table. By combining the power of AI with the unique expertise of human designers, we can create a future where design is more accessible, impactful, and transformative than ever before.
